Banyan Tree Escape Buahan is an award-winning eco-luxury resort located in the lush landscape of Gianyar, Bali, designed around its signature “Naked Experience” concept that removes walls and doors to create an immersive connection between guests and nature. Sustainability is embedded from the outset, with buildings carefully integrated into the natural terrain to preserve existing flora and fauna while minimising environmental impact. A key sustainability feature is the use of reclaimed Ulin (ironwood), a durable hardwood traditionally used for maritime structures in Kalimantan, repurposed to reduce material waste and embodied energy. Sustainahaus served as the EDGE Expert, collaborating with a local EDGE Auditor during the post-construction stage, leading to the project’s successful EDGE certification in early 2023, and reinforcing Banyan Tree Escape Buahan’s position as a benchmark for sustainable luxury hospitality in Indonesia.
