Banyan Tree Escape Buahan

The award-winning resort attained EDGE certification

Location : Gianyar, Bali, Indonesia

Banyan Tree Escape Buahan, located in Gianyar, Bali, Indonesia, is an eco-friendly resort that offers a unique and immersive experience with its "Naked Experience" concept, allowing guests to connect intimately with nature in villas without walls or doors.

The resort's commitment to sustainability is evident from its inception, with a design philosophy that seamlessly integrates individual structures with the natural environment, preserving the surrounding flora and fauna.

Ulin wood, also known as "ironwood," plays a central role in the resort's sustainability story. Originating from the Kalimantan region and traditionally used for boat piers and fishing boat decks, this hardwood boasts innate resistance to insects and wood borers, making it an ideal choice for maritime structures like bridges and docks. The resort's decision to repurpose Ulin wood in its construction is a testament to its dedication to sustainability and giving this exceptional material a second life.

Sustainahaus, serving as the EDGE Expert, collaborated with a local EDGE Auditor during the post-construction stage of the project. As a result of these efforts, Banyan Tree Escape Buahan was awarded the EDGE certificate in early 2023, underscoring its commitment to environmentally responsible building practices and sustainability in the hospitality industry.
