Developed by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, EDGE is a pioneering green building certification program. A key advantage of EDGE certification lies in its accessibility and affordability, making it ideal for small to mid-scale projects. The certification process is straightforward and supported by the user-friendly EDGE software tool, which simplifies the building design and certification process.

Our EDGE Expertise
An EDGE Expert is a professional who helps developers, owners, and project teams navigate the EDGE standard, software, and certification system. Their role includes providing guidance on green building design and assisting with the preparation of EDGE certification.
While the EDGE system is designed to be quick and intuitive, engaging an EDGE Expert or training a design team member through the EDGE program can be valuable when the team is new to the certification process.
EDGE Auditors assess whether a building meets the EDGE standard by investigating and evaluating objective evidence. They review project documentation during the design audit and visit the project site for the audit before submitting a certification recommendation to the certification partner.
EDGE Auditors must remain independent from the developer, owner, and project team of the projects they assess.

Our EDGE Consultancy
Level 1
EDGE Certified
EDGE Certified is the entry level of the EDGE certification system. It recognises buildings that achieve at least 20% savings in energy, water, and embodied energy in materials compared to local industry benchmarks. This level demonstrates a project’s commitment to essential resource efficiency and sustainable design practices. Sustainahaus guides clients through documentation, verification, and submission to ensure their projects meet all requirements for successful certification.
Level 2
EDGE Advanced
EDGE Advanced is awarded to buildings that achieve at least 40% energy savings, in addition to meeting the 20% savings in water and embodied energy required at the Certified level. This designation highlights higher-performance buildings that incorporate more ambitious efficiency measures and stronger design strategies. Our consultants support clients by identifying feasible improvements, optimising design decisions, and managing the certification process from start to finish.
Level 3
EDGE Zero Carbon certification allows projects to be recognized as carbon neutral. To qualify, buildings must achieve at least 20% savings in water and embodied energy, 40% energy savings on-site, and 100% total energy savings through renewable sources or verified carbon offsets. Our consultants work closely with clients throughout the process, ensuring a smooth path toward achieving EDGE Zero Carbon certification.
