The World Bank Group Country Office in Dili underwent a comprehensive renovation to extend the building’s operational life while significantly improving its sustainability performance. Located on Avenida dos Direitos Humanos, the one-storey office spans 1,281 sqm across the main building and ancillary facilities, set within a 5,825 sqm site. Originally constructed over 35 years ago, the renovation was designed to ensure the building remains functional, efficient, and fit for purpose for at least the next 15 years.
Sustainahaus served as the EDGE Auditor, supporting the project through both the design and post-construction stages on behalf of GPDM Sustainability as the EDGE Expert. The project successfully achieved EDGE Preliminary Certification in late 2021 and EDGE Final Certification in March 2024, demonstrating a strong commitment to resource efficiency, responsible retrofit practices, and long-term environmental performance.
This project highlights how strategic green retrofitting can enhance building performance, reduce environmental impact, and extend asset value, setting a benchmark for sustainable office renovations in Timor-Leste.
